Barcelona/Spanien, 22. September 2025 – Eastalent Racing experienced a hot race weekend at the penultimate round of the International GT Open on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. From September 19 to 21, the Austrian team fought for crucial points in the title battle. With second place on Saturday and seventh place on Sunday, the championship remains thrilling heading into the finale in Monza.
With only a three-point deficit, Team Principal Peter Reicher and his squad traveled to Barcelona aiming to complete the hat trick after title wins in 2023 and 2024. Following the home race at the Red Bull Ring, it was clear: every result counts.
“We were very satisfied with second place on Saturday. Finishing seventh on Sunday after starting from pole in the rain, however, wasn’t enough to make decisive gains in the title fight,” explained Reicher. He criticized the classification of the cars: “The Balance of Performance (BoP) currently plays heavily into the hands of Ferrari and McLaren. It’s a shame that depending on the weekend, the manufacturers are given an advantage – that doesn’t really contribute to sporting fairness in a championship.”
Driver Simon Reicher emphasized the team’s commitment: “We got the maximum out of our Audi. Everyone worked incredibly hard, and giving up is not an option for us. Despite the podium on Saturday, Sunday showed us that it’s almost impossible to compete against the BoP. On the positive side, we were able to keep our direct competitors in check. Now Monza will decide the title.”
The final decision will be made, as last year, in Monza (Italy, October 17–19, 2025). Alongside the strong Mercedes teams, the main challenge will be keeping the Ferrari rivals at bay. “We can hold our own against Mercedes. The difficulty will be keeping Ferrari at a distance,” said Reicher.
Eastalent Racing heads into the big showdown as the runner-up in the standings, five points behind, with the clear goal of bringing the title back to Austria once again.
